PreSoli– Today we started our concert song. We are using both our bows as well as plucking the notes. Try both ways! The notes are as follows: D-D-G-G-D-D-G-G-E-E-G-G-G-G-E-E- Also, practice playing each note on the D and A strings both ascending (going up) and descending (going down). We also started using our books today!! Review page 4 and add page 5. You may go onto pages 6 and 7 if you feel ready!! Let your eyes practice moving with the notes and make sure you sing before you play!
SoliPrelude/Camerata– We began working on our new fiddle song. Work on “Sliding ones” also known as your first finger scale. Also, we are working very diligently on recognizing our notes without the names written in them. Practice pages 14-15, naming each note after counting to three. See how quickly you can go! Practice 43-44 in your book. Also, look at 47-53. Here are the notes for your fiddle song: D-G-D-G-E-G-G-E-D-G-D-G-E-F#-G-G-. Camerata work on #89 in your book.
SoliMezzo– Work in your book on number 192: Simple Gifts. Today we worked on measure 23-end. We were very diligent about playing just a few notes at a time and then adding notes in. Be sure to have your books (Essential Elements and Stringing Along) in class each week. Cinnamon from your Stringing Along book will also be one of your concert songs. We worked on Cinnamon and Samba La Bamba today in class. In Cinnamon, be aware of the naturals and sharps! Pay attention to dynamic markings and bowings! Review your fiddle song at home. The notes for the song, Liberty are as follows: B-D-B-D-B-B-G-B-C-E-C-E-C-C-A-C-B-D-B-D-B-B-G-B-C-A-D-F#-G-D-G-G
Part assignments: 1st violin Cinnamon/Samba: Sebastian, Natalie, Abby, Andrew 2nd violin Cinnamon/Samba: Kaitlyn, Isaac, Tori, Caleb, Rachel
SoliChamber– Remember our discussion about perfect practicing. Long, slow bows as well as scales and arpeggios. Wired, Allegro from Concerto Grosso, A Birch Bay Celebration, Ridin’ the Rails are the songs we are concentrating on for our concert music. Today, we focused our time on Allegro and Birch Bay. Continue to work on the style of allegro. Remember that we are not as concerned about notes as we are the style. Birch Bay is gorgeous, make sure you learn your rhythm and bowing correctly so we don’t have to break bad habits! Be aware of your bow direction and whether or not you are playing the correct direction. Continue to work on Wired and Birch Bay on Smartmusic until we get parts for you. So far, those that have submitted Wired are doing very well, so continue to work on it. The biggest challenge will be to maintain that bow speed and string crossing throughout the entire song. Learn the first 24 measures of Ridin’ the Rails: know how to count it. Also, review measures 38-64. Review your fiddle song at home. The notes for the song, Liberty are as follows: B-D-B-D-B-B-G-B-C-E-C-E-C-C-A-C-B-D-B-D-B-B-G-B-C-A-D-F#-G-D-G-G
