PreSoli– Today we worked on playing in our books. We have now played through number 16.  For homework, the students should complete the writing assignment in their books on #16.  Also, they should practice pages 8-9 (#17-22). We also were tapping our feet with the music.  They can either tap their toes or their heel. We also tried to count out loud and tapping their feet and plucking open D string. Continue to work on the fiddle song. The notes are as follows: D-D-G-G-D-D-G-G-E-E-G-G-G-G-E-E-

SoliPrelude/Camerata– We found our harmonic in the center of the string.  Also, we are working very diligently on recognizing our notes without the names written in them.  Practice pages 14-15, naming each note after counting to three.  See how quickly you can go!  Practice 43-44 in your book.  Also, look at 47-53.  Here are the notes for your fiddle song: D-G-D-G-E-G-G-E-D-G-D-G-E-F#-G-G-.  Camerata work on #89 in your book.

SoliMezzo– Work in your book on number 192: Simple Gifts.  Today we worked on measure 1-15.  Measures 16-18 is homework.  Learn both lines! We were very diligent about playing just a few notes at a time and then adding notes in.  Be sure to have your books (Essential Elements and Stringing Along) in class each week.  Cinnamon from your Stringing Along book will also be one of your concert songs.  We worked on Samba La Bamba today in class.  It’s time to start speeding up the tempo just a little. In Cinnamon, be aware of the naturals and sharps!  Pay attention to dynamic markings and bowings!  Review your fiddle song at home.  The notes for the song, Liberty are as follows: B-D-B-D-B-B-G-B-C-E-C-E-C-C-A-C-B-D-B-D-B-B-G-B-C-A-D-F#-G-D-G-G  Home practice is for learning your part, while orchestra rehearsal is for learning other parts or the orchestra and how you fit.  Make sure your part is already learned before you come to class so you can work on the more fun part of rehearsal: listening to everyone else!

Part assignments: 1st violin Cinnamon/Samba: Sebastian, Natalie, Abby, Andrew    2nd violin Cinnamon/Samba: Kaitlyn, Isaac, Tori, Caleb, Rachel

SoliChamber– Write in your counting when you are confused about  rhythm in your music.  It will help you solidify it and prevent you from learning the rhythm incorrectly.  Wired, Allegro from Concerto Grosso, A Birch Bay Celebration, Ridin’ the Rails are the songs we are concentrating on for our concert music.  Continue to work on the style of Allegro.  Make sure the spaces are in the right place and are the correct length. Remember that we are not as concerned about notes as we are the style. With that being said, though, first violins, review the fingerings for third position notes in all pieces.  Birch Bay needs attention on key signature and bow direction.  Be aware of your bow direction always and whether or not you are playing the correct direction.  Continue to work on Wired on Smartmusic until we get parts for you.  So far, those that have submitted Wired are doing very well, so continue to work on it.  The biggest challenge will be to maintain that bow speed and string crossing throughout the entire song.   Review your fiddle song at home.  The notes for the song, Liberty are as follows: B-D-B-D-B-B-G-B-C-E-C-E-C-C-A-C-B-D-B-D-B-B-G-B-C-A-D-F#-G-D-G-G
